Most people are interested in the Energi version of the Fusion because of its innovative plug-in hybrid powertrain. It utilizes 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 engine and electric motor that receives power from 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This gasoline engine and electric motor combined can deliver a maximum output of 188 hp which means that there will be no changes compared to previous version but still it is more than enough for this sedan. The Energi will have CVT transmission and it will deliver power to the front wheels. The model can be driven on pure electricity for about 21 miles and we you stop you can recharge your battery pack with standard 120-volt convenience cord, or with an available 240-volt home charging option.
According to reports, this car will be able to achieve 100 MPGe, this is only on pure electric power. Using hybrid mode, the model will achieve 47 mpg in the city, 47 mpg on the highway and 47 mpg in combined driving. These were the figures announced for the first Fusion Energi but not long after that Ford had to lower since it was almost impossible to achieve these results. For new version it is important to offer significantly better results than 40/36 mpg and Ford aims to reach numbers they planned with previous model.
