The current Taurus had its debut as the 2010 model year, so Ford decided that it is time to work on its new model, since its bones are getting pretty old, so it would become a strong competitor to the rivals on the market. The main issue with the current Taurus is definitely its heavy chassis and body, so Ford’s biggest focus was on lowering its weight. It is time for the 2016 Ford Taurus and it will be on the market anytime soon.
Exterior wise, the new 2016 Ford Taurus will be built upon a lighter platform. At the front end we are getting smaller honeycomb grille and small rectangular LED headlights which will provide a more modern look to this new model. Also, this vehicle will come with larger wheels and Shelby-inspired front bumper that will bring it closer to the sporty part of the lineup. At the back, there will be a new set of taillights and horizontal chrome strip placed between the light clusters. Everything else will be pretty much the same.
As for the interior, only the base version will come with the cloth seats, while the rest of the lineup will have perforated leather upholstery which is a quite nice touch. The heated and cooled front seats will be offered, as well as heated rear seats. The dashboard will most likely keep its contemporary lines and it will be refined with metal and wood accents. Center console will be dominated with a 8-inch LCD screen display that can control almost all systems in car but also provide all the necessary details about ride. Some of the other equipment in the 2016 model will be Sony’s audio system with 12 speakers, providing the best surround sound. Sync infotainment unit will be also a part of the new model. Electronic safety features such as: adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, collision warning, brake support, etc. are offered.
It is assumed that the base model will be powered with the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine which is capable to produce 288 hp and 254 pound-feet of torque. There will also be a couple of EcoBoost engines for the remainder of the lineup. One of them will be a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 which will produce 365 hp and 350 pound-feet of torque. Second option in the EcoBoost lineup will be the smaller 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine with 240 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque, and at this point it is the most efficient engine in Taurus lineup, rated at 26 mpg combined. The numbers for the V-6 are 20 and 23 mpg.
For better fuel economy, Ford puts into its model a new 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for better driving control. The power with this transmission will be sent through the front wheels. It is assumed that AWD system will be optional for SEL and Limited models, and standard on the SHO model.
One of the things that we would like to see offered with new vehicle is the hybrid model. Even it is only a rumor it would be great if Ford would use its experience from Fusion and few other models to provide petrol electric combination as a way to reduce fuel consumption but also to improve performances.
2016 Ford Taurus Price
The 2016 Ford Taurus should come on the market anytime soon. Although the most part of the market has moved out of large sedans into SUVs, there are still a lot of customers for this five-seat sedan. Price should be in line with the current 2015 model, so look for an MSRP of under $28,000 for base version. For AWD version you will need to add about $1,850 more. The main rivals to this sedan will be the redesigned Nissan Maxima, the Chrysler 300, the Chevrolet Impala and the Toyota Avalon so it is obvious that Taurus will face some serious competitors.
