Ford EcoSport was originally launched in 2003 and it was produced until 2012. The next, second generation came with plenty of changes and improvements, based on the 2011 Ford Fiesta B2E platform. Now, it is time for the new 2016 Ford EcoSport to be delivered.
This 2016 Ford EcoSport was premiered at the Geneva Motor Show this year. The model will not suffer any major changes, just some minor modifications all around. The model gets cosmetic, feature and mechanical revisions. In the exterior department, the major changes will be at the front end of the car, while the interior will be improved compared to the previous model.
The exterior stands refreshed which will be obvious as soon as you take a look at the front part of the vehicle. Its new front fascia looks like from the new Edge bringing this model closer to the lineup. There will be a huge, trapezoidal grille with chrome slats and slim headlamps with square shaped projectors. The model’s new front bumper will feature new L-shaped fog lights and it will also have larger air intakes. The rear end will also suffer some changes. It will have new taillights and a couple of more tweaks that follow new styling of the front end. The wheel options are: 16 inches alloy wheels and 17 inches alloy wheels within the higher trim level.
The 2016 model comes with the improved interior compared to the previous model. The instrument cluster will be restyled, and it will come with chrome details and light dimming function giving it higher class feel. The interior will come covered with better materials, providing extra comfort to all passengers and much nicer feel. This new version, won’t be just more comfortable, but also better equipped. It will have a new Winter Pack, the equipment really necessary for the North countries. This pack will include heated mirrors, heated front seats and heated windscreen. Among many features it will be also equipped with a rear view camera and SatNav system, along with the SYNC system and 4-inch color display in the center of the dashboard.
2016 Ford EcoSport Review
High tech materials will be implemented in parts of chassis and this includes lightweight aluminum plus carbon fiber. With these changes we will be getting stronger chassis and improved safety features compared to previous model while fuel economy, handling and performances segment will also benefit from these changes.
The new redesigned 2016 Ford EcoSport will be available with a few engine options. One of them will be a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine which is capable to produce about 123 hp and much greater torque amount. Another one should be a 1.5-liter TiVCT engine with the capacity to produce almost 110 hp. The last one could be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine with nearly 245 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque. With such engine options, this car surely becomes quite an off-roader. Base model will come with a five-speed manual transmission it is still unclear if there will be an automatic transmission but since it will have 2.0 EcoBoost unit we are sure that more transmission options will be available.
The new 2016 Ford EcoSport should be available by the end of this year, October is the most likely reserved for the launch. The price will be similar to the previous version, which means the starting price will probably be slightly above $10,000 for the base version but it is unclear if Ford will bring this model to the U.S. market also or it will be only reserved for other markets.
